Board members 'zoom'

into new year

The 2020-2021 year officially kicked off Mon., June 1, with a virtual board of directors meeting via Zoom. They also met on July 6.

Board meetings will be held on the first Monday of the month, and general membership meetings will remain on the third Monday. For the summer, meetings will be scheduled virtually via Zoom. Hopefully, by August or September, we will be able to start meeting in person again.

The roster of new club officers is listed in the gray section. You can click on the names to email that officer directly. Each of the vice presidents has numerous other committee members assisting with various jobs, as well.

Aggie Moms Connecting: Howdy Party goes virtual

We will be hosting our annual HOWDY Party to welcome new Collin County Aggies, freshmen and transfer students, and their moms on Tues., Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. The event will be held virtually using Zoom. Help spread the word and invite any new Aggies and their mothers that you might know.

If you would like to help with the event, please contact Pres. Andrea Greenwald

We need facilitators to host some virtual breakout sessions, or lead some games, or just answer questions. Any ideas to make this a fun event are greatly appreciated!

Membership Renewal Drive

You should have received an email at the end of May about renewing your membership. If you haven't paid your dues yet, please do so! If you have any questions or issues, please contact 1st VP Jo Anna Gaudsmith.

Special Committee

A special committee is being formed to update and revise our bylaws since some new positions have been added in recent years. This committee will be chaired by Troie Burch and is open to anyone.

If you would like to serve on this committee, please email Troie: agmom77@yahoo.com.

Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Our first ever golf tournament fundraiser was held July 2, at the Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna. Pres.-Elect Kathy Terzis organized the event, and we want to give a big THANK YOU to her! Whoop!

We ended up with 10 four-person teams competing in the scramble, and our net profit was $6,500, some of which went to last year's scholarships and student organizations.

The players were very pleased despite the heat and commented that it was well run and very organized and an enjoyable experience overall. We are looking forward to hosting our second annual golf tournament in Spring 2021 with MUCH cooler temperatures!

COVID Concerns: Parents worry about sending students back to campus

Since there is still no end in sight to the coronavirus pandemic, many of us parents are concerned about sending our students back to campus next month.

The Office of Student Affairs also released a new COVID-19 Guide for returning to campus.

Both you and your Aggie should review this guide and make sure you are prepared.

Let’s do our part this fall to selflessly serve and respect our community by leading the way with excellence, integrity, and loyalty to one another.

The Dean of Student Life, Dr. Anne Reber, recently issued an email to all students regarding the COVID-19 Training and Certification that they must take prior to returning to campus. If they do not take the training before Aug. 11, they will not be able to access anything in the Howdy Portal until it is complete.

Several Aggie parents in some of the Facebook groups have advised that we make sure we are able to make decisions for our adult children in the event of a medical emergency.

The Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) could prevent a hospital from disclosing information to us parents. According to Consumer Reports, three forms--HIPAA authorization, medical power of attorney (MPOA), and durable power of attorney (POA)--will help facilitate the involvement of a parent in a medical emergency.

Once the forms are completed, it's a good idea to scan and save them so they're readily available on a smartphone and/or home computer. Both you and your student should have copies.

Many websites have forms that can be downloaded such as Texas Health and Human Services. Just passing along this information, not to alarm you or cause you more worry; but it never hurts to be prepared, pandemic or not.
